Johnny Depp’s rep shuts down talk of ‘Pirates’ return

Johnny Depp in 2021.

Don’t look for Johnny Depp to return as Jack Sparrow anytime soon.

A representative for Depp has denied a recent report the actor would be returning to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
“This is made up,” Depp’s spokesperson told NBC News.
Additionally, Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, recently talked to The Times about whether Depp would return.
“Not at this point,” Bruckheimer said. “The future is yet to be decided.”
Dueling defamation suits between Depp and his former wife, Amber Heard, recently concluded earlier this month with Depp being awarded more in damages than Heard.

Fact check: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene falsely claims Schumer rejected National Guard presence for Jan. 6

In a speech on the House floor on Thursday, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia repeated the common Republican claim that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had rejected a National Guard presence for January 6. There is no evidence that the Speaker, who has no authority over the activation of the District of Columbia National Guard, was involved in any such rejection; her office has repeatedly said she wasn’t even consulted.

But Greene went even further than her colleagues — also casting blame on the Democrats’ leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer. Greene claimed that Schumer also turned down the Guard and was also responsible for the failure to protect the Capitol on the day of the riot.

Facts FirstGreene’s claim about Schumer is false. Schumer, now the Senate Majority Leader, was Senate Minority Leader at the time of the riot on January 6, 2021; Republican Mitch McConnell, whom Greene did not blame in her Thursday speech, was head of the majority. And even the Senate Majority Leader does not have any authority over the activation of the DC National Guard. The President of the United States has that authorityalong with Department of Defense officials to whom presidential power has been delegated.

Schumer only became Senate Majority Leader two weeks after January 6, when two Democrats who won runoff elections held in Georgia on January 5, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, were sworn in as senators and the Democrats took narrow control of the chamber.

Schumer spokesman Justin Goodman told CNN on Thursday that, during the riot, Schumer asked the Secretary of the Army to approve National Guard assistance at the Capitol. An official timeline released by the Department of Defense confirms that Schumer spoke to the secretary that afternoon.

Greene’s office did not immediately respond Thursday to a request for comment CNN sent around 3:40 pm.

The “heart” of the hearing will be Rep Liz Cheney’s opening remarks – which are written like the opening statement of a trial.

She will lay out step by step what happened on Jan. 6 and to do that she will use clips from closed-door testimony that the committee has gathered since it was formed almost a year ago.

What to watch: Expect those clips to include Donald Trump’s family members but also other people in and around the former President. This is all about connecting the dots in a way that paints a picture – and Cheney will be crucial in doing that tonight.

GOP Rep. Kevin Brady: Manchin is ‘asking exactly the right questions’ on $3.5 trillion budget plan

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) threw a monkey wrench into Democratic plans to quickly pass their proposed $3.5 trillion budget plan with an op-ed last week that called for a “pause.”

And while the Democratic-led House is “moving at light speed” to pass the legislation, Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) said on Yahoo Finance Live (video above), Sen. Manchin — who holds a crucial swing vote in the upper chamber — is “asking exactly the right questions.”

Some experts predict that for the bill to pass in the Senate, moderate Senate Democrats like Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) would require that the $3.5 trillion price tag be lowered.

Manchin has repeatedly said lawmakers “need to pay for” asics shoes their ideas, adding that he won’t support a bill that increases the deficit. In his op-ed, Machine stated that the basic question for him is: “What should we fund, and what can we simply not afford?”

Brady, the ranking Republican on the House Ways and Means committee, said that he hoped “others will listen to [Manchin] because if we have that pause and really a thoughtful discussion, I don’t think we’ll rush through these crippling tax hikes or the spending that I [also] think is going to hurt out economy.”

Next steps in the House

The White House describes President Biden’s “Build Back Better Agenda” as “an ambitious plan to create jobs, cut taxes, and lower costs for working families – all paid for by making the tax code fairer and making the wealthiest and large corporations pay their fair share.”

The $3.5 trillion budget resolution is a key part of implementing that economic agenda, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has made clear she keen shoes intends to move as quickly as possible.

In a statement Friday, in response to the subpar jobs report, Pelosi said the new data underlines how “decisive action is needed” from Congress and reiterated her push to pass the plan. (Brady predicted that Speaker Pelosi could get the package through the House in the next 3 or 4 weeks.)

Brady’s lesson from what he called a “pretty terrible jobs report” was that the proposed tax increases — to fund measures related to climate change, health care, and family aid — are the last thing that is needed right now given the fragile economic recovery.

The first steps towards the budget’s passage in the House are already underway with relevant Committees gathering to “mark up” the portions of the bill relevant to their jurisdiction.

Brady — who opposes the overall effort and the proposed clarks shoes uk higher taxes in particular — is not expecting Republicans to have significant input in the House. Instead, he hopes that Manchin’s stance brings more moderate Democrats on board with the idea of slowing the effort.

“I think what Senator Machine asked every moderate in the House, if there are any left, is asking themselves: What is the rush here?” Brady said. “What is the impact on jobs? You know, are we spending money that would be best set aside for the next pandemic or rebuilding this economy or making ourselves more independent from China on medicines and key technologies?”

Greene is among the Republicans who have been accused of downplaying the riot, but she told CNN that the Capitol defendants are criminals that “need their day in court.”

In a letter sent to FBI Director Chris Wray and Capitol Police on Friday, Greene pressed the issue, asking if any federal law enforcement agents were “participants or attendants” at the riot or rally that preceded it.

She has also spread unsubstantiated claims about the integrity of the 2020 election, including falsely saying that President Joe Biden did not win the election.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries told MSNBC Friday that he wouldn’t be surprised if McCarthy appointed Greene to the January 6 ecco shoes commission, as well as other Republicans who have pushed false election claims.

“He’s got quite a collection of characters to choose from. It’s not my expectation given Kevin McCarthy’s past practice that he will do anything other than bend the knee to Donald Trump,” he said. “We’ll see what horror show Kevin McCarthy gives us that we will have to deal with.”

Mace said this is the second time her private property ecco shoes has been marred by those who oppose her politically. In the run-up to the November election, then-candidate Mace told The Associated Press that someone tried to intimidate her by carving an obscenity into a side door of her vehicle hours before she met Cunningham for a debate.

And before that, Mace said, someone flew cross-country to seek her out in her neighborhood.
